  • Delhi: If India is a Body, Delhi is the soul of India. Delhi is one of the cities where old meets new. Old side you get transported 400 years back in time, where only God can keep the electricity flowing. New Delhi is designed in 1911 by Edwin Lutyens British architecture. The city is divided by broad avenues and lined with trees.

Jaipur: Also popularly known as Pink city. The pink city is not that pink but it will still leave you feeling rosy. Displaying remarkable harmony, the pink city still beats in its fairy tale palaces, rugged fortresses perched on hills. The only planned city of its time, encircled by a formidable wall.

Agra: The former capital of the great Mughal Empire. Magnificent and historic buildings along with the impressive sandstone Red Fort and without doubt the “crown of palaces” the white-marbled Taj Mahal are all prized features of this city.

Be sure it is suitable for India, as India sockets accept round 3 pin plugs that are similar but not identical to European plugs.

MONEY AND TIPPING

The India currency is the Rupee (Rs). It is technically a ‘closed currency’ so you will need to get this on arrival in India and you will not be able to change it back into pounds once you are back home. Your guide or driver will assist you with this when you first arrive. There are plenty of ATMs throughout India, but mainly in the larger towns. The rupee is split into the following denominations: Rs 2000, 500, 100, 200, 50, 20, 10 and 5. Please remember to tell your bank before you leave that you are travelling to India to avoid any problems.

If you are visiting the neighbouring countries of Nepal and Bhutan, you can carry Indian currency as long as the denomination of the notes is less than Rs 1000.
