The beautiful hill station of Morni is located in the state of Haryana. Prolific, bountiful Haryana! The land is bounteous and it reflects in the mood and culture of a vibrant population that makes for a thriving region. If the Earth sings, the people dance and, at the same time, work hard too. Haryana is about prosperity gained the hard way, a model for other regions to follow, a trend setter in agriculture, culture, commerce and industry.
Geographically Haryana is the heartland of North India. On one side it has Punjab. To the South and West it has Rajasthan as its neighbour. On the other side it has Uttarakhand to the East and Delhi pulsates just to the South-East.
Travel through Haryana takes you through rolling fields of rice and wheat singing a paen to the bounty of Mother Nature and then you come upon hills and Shivalik Mountains, adding just that touch of picturesque beauty. You can see the prosperity all around you and feel to the bones that this is a happy state.
The Hill Resorts in Haryana:
Haryana is mostly rolling lush green plains and as such it has only one lone hill resort of Morni located in the Panchkula district. Morni is 35 km from Panchkula, nestling in the foothills of the Shivalik range of the Himalayas.
Morni takes its name after a queen who is said to have ruled over this region at one time.
Location:
Morni is located at an altitude of about 1220 metres. What is unique to Morni is that it has two lakes, both supposed to be connected by a subterranean passage. The level of water in both lakes remains the same due to this connection. One lake is about 550 mtrs in length and 460 metres wide whereas the other is 365 metres in size. A temple dating back to the 12th century stands on the banks of the lake and houses an idol of Trimurti.
Getting there:
Morni is accessible by a road connected with the Haryana State Highway leading to Panchkula and Chandigarh. When you visit Morni, do not forget to visit the old fort, even though it is now in ruins. This is the only place of historical interest. Otherwise, Morni is more attractive as a scenic and charming natural resort since it is surrounded by picturesque forests of pine trees with a number of trekking routes.
Ideal Tourism Activities:
If possible you can go boating on any of the three lakes here. These lakes are the Tikkar Tal, Chota Tikkar and Bada Tikkar, all three being man-made lakes. A trek will take you to a small waterfall that is active only when it rains otherwise the area is just made up of a small water body where you can relax and commune with nature.
The State Tourism department has developed this resort and there is a guest house, playground and a roller skating rink in addition to a swimming pool in the Mountain Quail Resort. In addition, you can find accommodation in nearby hotels and guest houses around Morni.
